Impact Finance

Impact finance aims to create and maximize its own impact while building a track record of impact visualization tailored to the needs of diverse stakeholders. At the same time, we are verifying how activities that maximize impact are linked to increases or decreases in economic returns and risks.

Financial business

Tricycle Leasing
For taxi drivers

We provide loans for tricycles to enable employment as drivers.

Background of Issue

There are approximately 4 million tricycle drivers in the Philippines, with an average income of around 190,000 pesos, and 90% of them belong to the poverty-stricken population.
As a result, many drivers struggle to secure the funds needed to purchase a tricycle or find it difficult to borrow loans from financial institutions. About 30% of drivers (roughly 1.2 million) do not own a tricycle and are working by renting one from others.
They continue to pay about 30% of their daily wages in rental fees, and as such, they are unable to find a way out of this situation.

Approach to this issue

We establish relationships with TODA (Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association) that govern tricycle drivers. We receive referrals of drivers seeking loans, verify and assess their basic information such as age, family composition, community reputation, and anticipated impact of employment.
In case of repayment delays, we repossess the tricycles and refinance them to other drivers.

Boat Leasing
For fishermen

We provide loans for boats and engines to enable employment as fishermen.

Background of Issue

There are over 1.4 million fishermen in the Philippines, with an average income of around 190,000 pesos.
Although the poverty rate is showing signs of improvement, it is still twice the national average. As a result, many fishermen lack the funds to purchase a boat and have never borrowed a loan from a financial institution.
Only about 200,000 boats are formally registered, and it is estimated that over 1 million fishermen do not own a boat. They go fishing by free-diving or by renting a boat.
In addition to the financial burden of paying rental fees, the limited rental hours make fishing inefficient, leaving these fishermen without an opportunity to improve their situation.

Approach to this issue

We establish relationships with the CAFO (City Agriculture Fishery Office), a directly administered agricultural/fishery cooperative in Cebu province, as well as with local networks of entrepreneurs and priests. We receive referrals of fishermen seeking loans, verify and assess their basic information such as age, family composition, community reputation, and anticipated impact of employment.
In case of repayment delays, we repossess the boats and refinance them to other fishermen.

Auto Leasing
For delivery driver

We provide auto leases to enable employment as delivery drivers.

Background of Issue

Against the backdrop of increasing e-commerce, the last-mile delivery market accounts for 13% of the logistics market (approximately 2.9 trillion yen) and is growing at an average annual rate of 10%. On the other hand, due to aging and the implementation of work style reform legislation, there is a growing shortage of drivers, prompting logistics companies to increasingly hire gig workers (of the 840,000 drivers, 350,000 are gig workers).
For a certain number of these gig workers, securing a vehicle is essential for carrying out their duties. However, general lease assessments tend to focus on credit history, making it difficult for capable gig workers to acquire vehicles, leading to a loss of employment opportunities.

Approach to this issue

We build joint operations with logistics companies and provide a safe working environment through business partnerships with various partners.
We receive driver referrals from logistics companies and assess applicants based on basic information such as age and family composition, as well as potential income from employment. We evaluate the future impact of employment and minimize the risk of loan default. If repayments fall behind, we repossess the vehicle and refinance it to another driver.
